Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between HF (High Frequency) and NHF (Non-High Frequency) start in plasma torches?

HF start uses a high-voltage arc to ignite the plasma, which provides reliable ignition even on rusty or painted surfaces—ideal for heavy-duty industrial use (like LT141 and CB200).
NHF start (used in IPT45) relies on a pilot arc without high-frequency discharge, making it safer around sensitive electronics and CNC equipment, and more suited to precision or light-duty applications.

To achieve optimal results:

  • Ensure proper gas pressure and flow (check against the torch’s specifications).

  • Preheat the material edge slightly (50–80°C for carbon steel) to reduce distortion.

  • Use a guide rail to maintain steady movement and straight lines.

  • Regularly inspect and replace worn electrodes and nozzles for consistent arc performance.

Common causes include:

  • Incorrect cutting speed: Moving too slowly creates more slag; too fast may cause incomplete cuts.

  • Worn consumables: Nozzles or electrodes in poor condition affect arc stability.

  • Improper torch angle or standoff: Keep the torch at the correct distance (typically 1–3mm) and perpendicular to the workpiece unless beveling is intended.

  • Gas flow issues: Ensure proper gas pressure and clean, dry air supply (especially for IPT45 and LT141).
